Summary:

1. Sensmore, a Berlin-based robotic startup, has secured funding to convert the world’s largest mobile machinery into intelligent robots using cameras, 4D radar, and AI.

2. The startup claims to transform any machine into an autonomous, self-reasoning robot capable of solving complicated tasks in real time, even without previous instruction.

3. The startup, founded in 2022, upgrades fleets like wheel loaders and haul trucks with a modular platform that incorporates end-to-end AI and Vision-Language-Action Models (VLAMs), allowing for real-time automation of challenging tasks such as load and carry in manufacturing environments.

According to the latest startup news, Point Nine Capital led the investment round of this robotic startup, with participation from foreign sponsors Acequia Capital, Tiny Supercomputer, Prototype Capital, and Entrepreneur First from the US and the UK.

The firm’s backers include founders and industry experts such as Amar Shah (Wayve), Michael Wax (Forto), Arnoud Balhuizen (former CCO of BHP, board member of Teck Resources), Thilo Konzok, Roby Stancel, Robin Dechant, Alexey Zhigarev, and Elmar Leiblein (former CEO of Thyssenkrupp Mining). The State of Brandenburg and the European Union have each contributed additional funds.

Maximilian Rolf, CEO and Co-founder, says, “Our strategy delivers immediate value through intelligent and adaptive features from day one, while laying the data foundation for tomorrow’s full automation.” We don’t only construct for our customers; we work with them to shape an automated future together.”

What is Sensmore?

Sensmore, a robotic startup founded in 2022, develops tangible AI to transform the world’s largest mobile machinery into intelligent robots. According to the latest startup news, as a full-system provider, it upgrades fleets such as wheel loaders and haul trucks with a modular platform that incorporates end-to-end AI and Vision-Language-Action Models (VLAMs), allowing for real-time automation of challenging tasks such as load and carry in manufacturing environments where it was previously unavailable.

The robotic startup contends that as Europe’s basic sectors approach a tipping point, the urge to adapt has never been greater. As labor shortages get worse and operational expenses grow, so using this funding, the robotic startup plans to help key industries such as construction, mining, and raw materials with robust, scalable, and field-ready automation.

Its technique claims to transform any machine into an autonomous, self-reasoning robot capable of solving complicated tasks in real time, even without previous instruction.

CEMEX and Lhoist are among Sensomore’s customers. The firm’s first fully automated LHD (Load-Haul-Dump) system is now being field tested and can complete a full load-and-carry cycle without human intervention.

At the root of this system, CTO and Co-founder Bjarne Johannsen differentiates between two levels of intelligence: “Thinking Fast is our end-to-end network that allows machines to react instantly and instinctively, like a person walking without thinking.” Thinking Slow provides logical reasoning, the ability to understand what the problem is, how to solve it, and why it is important.”

“Like Figure AI does for humanoids, we use a multimodal system that combines vision, language, and action context to solve complex real-world tasks, even those that the machine has never seen before,” Johannsen adds, adding that a VLAM powers that deeper layer.

Ricardo Sequerra Amram, Partner at Point Nine, added on this latest startup news that “this robotic startup is creating a new era of intelligent automation for huge machines.” What distinguishes them is their ability to translate cutting-edge AI research into robust, modular solutions that can be used today. Their strong client relationships and superb technical staff are building the infrastructure for a new wave of reindustrialization in mining, construction, and beyond.”
