Sarvam AI, a tech startup based in Bengaluru, releases a new text-to-speech model, “Bulbul v1” supporting 11 Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Oriya, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Gujarati. According to the startup, the goal is to make the voice more human and authentic instead of being robotic.

Users may choose from 6 different personalities where each tailored to a specific communication need for a different sector. For instance, Joe is expressive and distinct, Caesar is dramatic and engaging, Vikas is narrational and mature, Vaibhavi is engaging and informative, while Amartya is conversational and articulate,and Pavitra is professional and articulate.
A blog recently shared by Sarvam AI claims that their training data for the Artificial Intelligence model is packed with rich quality, diverse audio from multiple voices and languages.
There were code-mixed inputs, proper names, and abbreviations, as well as voices with professional and conversational tones for various use scenarios.

Sarvam AI, founded in 2023 by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, is a full-stack GenAI platform for developing small and big language models. The Ministry of Skill Development, Urban Company, NITI Aayog, and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) are a few of its users.
Apart from Sarvam AI, Soket AI Labs, Gnani.ai, and Gan.ai may receive incentives for developing frontier AI models through the IndiaAI Mission, as the government seeks to finalize the “first set” of submissions for developing native fundamental AI models.
According to ET, seven companies have been shortlisted for the second round: Sify Digital Services, Netmagic IT Services, Vensysco Technologies, Cyfuture India, Yotta Data Services, Locuz Enterprise Solutions, and Ishan Infotech.
In March of last year, the Union Cabinet authorized the IndiaAI Mission, allocating INR 10,372 Cr over the following five years to promote innovation in the domestic AI ecosystem.
It includes projects like IndiaAI Compute Capacity, IndiaAI Innovation Centre (IAIC), IndiaAI Datasets Platform, IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, IndiaAI FutureSkills, IndiaAI Startup Financing, and Safe & Trusted AI.
